Description
Terminalia chebula Retz., known in Ayurveda as Haritaki or Chebulic Myrobalan, is a medium-sized deciduous tree in the family Combretaceae, native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. Haritaki is considered the “King of Medicines” in Tibetan medicine and one of the most revered and therapeutically important herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, where it is regarded as a panacea capable of benefiting all five of the body’s major organ systems. It is the third component of Triphala alongside Amla (Phyllanthus emblica) and Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), and is classified in Ayurveda as a Rasayana herb with longevity-promoting, rejuvenating, and multi-systemic therapeutic properties. The dried unripe or ripe fruit is the primary medicinal part, and its broad therapeutic applications span digestive health, detoxification, wound healing, anti-aging, cognitive support, and immune function.
