Derris scandens Benth. is well-known as an Asian medicinal plant and an important source of bioactive compounds. Derris scandens Benth. locally Thai called “Tao-Wan-Priang”, is a climbing shrub and is widely distributed throughout Southeast Asia, including India, Malaysia, China and Thailand. Derris scandens (Roxb.) Benth. has been used as active ingredient in Thai traditional medicine recipes for pain relief and muscle ache remedy. Dry stem powder and ethanolic extract also recommended in Thailand National List of Essential Medicines (NLEMs) for musculoskeletal pain treatment as herbal medicine.
