Pueraria mirifica has been recognized as the prime Thai herb for a long period of time. People also call it Pueraria candollei Grah. var. mirifica (Airy Shaw et. Suvatabandhu) Niyomdham, and categorize it into the family of Leguminosae. Previously, the main application of Pueraria Mirifica was rejuvenating the elderly. Later on, researchers find out that Pueraria Mirifica consists of phytoestrogens, which is an estrogen similar to human hormones. Therefore, the current application of Pueraria mirifica has expanded into purposes like improving health, boosting appetite, supporting sleeping conditions, relieving pain, improving eye conditions, nourishing hair, improving skin conditions, and enlarging breasts.
In Chinese medicine, the herb Pueraria Candollei variant Mirifica (shortened to Pueraria mirifica) is known as White Kwao Krua. Shenwani is a traditional rejuvenator and energy booster, especially for older women. Kudzu root, Pueraria Lobata, should be considered a different supplement.
Chromenes, a class of phytoestrogens found in the herb, rival estrogen in potency. Therefor it is considered a standard herbal “estrogen replacement therapy” due to its high estrogenic activity.
