Description
Houttuynia cordata Thunb., commonly known as Fish Mint, Chameleon Plant, or Dok Kaeo in Thai, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family Saururaceae, native to East and Southeast Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand. It is widely used as both a culinary herb and a medicinal plant across its native range. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is known as Yu Xing Cao (“Fish-Smelling Herb”) and is one of the most commonly used detoxifying and anti-inflammatory herbs. It has been used for centuries to treat respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, skin disorders, and inflammatory conditions. In Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia, it is consumed raw as a culinary herb and salad green, reflecting its safety as a food plant.
