Commonly the plant is known as Ebony, belonging to family Ebenaceae. Ebony is a used widely in Thailand to improve sexual function. Based on studies, its pharmacological properties include anti-cancer, antioxidant and neuroprotective.

Its fruit bark is burned and soaked in water and used as a cure for leucorrhoea and diuretic. The roots are used to treat beriberi, urinary tract infections, discomfort, weariness, and appetite loss. It’s also used to relieve overheating. The bark of the tree is blended with the bark of the cauliflower, pig head, Khoi seeds, and dried pepper fruit and drink as a tonic.
