Cleome viscosa L. (Cleomaceae) is an important traditional medicine of the Indian-Ayurvedic and Chinese-medicine system documented for rheumatic arthritis, hypertension, malaria, neurasthenia, and wound healing. CV is known by various names such as wild mustard, dog mustard, and sticky cleome. Various scientific investigations revealed analgesic-antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, anthelmintic, and antidiarrhoeal activity of C. viscosa. In the Unani system of medicine, the seeds of the plant are documented as anthelmintic and detergent, and are given to treat fever and diarrhea.
Cleome viscosa Linn. (Capparidaceae), often known as “wild or dog mustard,” is an annual, sticky herb that grows as a weed in India’s plains and throughout the world’s tropics. Traditional and folklore medicine make extensive use of the entire plant and its parts (leaves, seeds, and roots). The herb is said to have antihelmintic, antiseptic, carminative, antiscorbutic, sudorific, febrifuge, and heart stimulating properties in traditional medical systems.
