Acanthus ebracteatus has been used as folk medicine for a wide range of tropical diseases in Ayurveda. In India, whole plants are used as astringent, expectorant, and stimulant, the roots are used as a cough remedy, and the tender shoots and leaves are used as a snakebite cure. In China, the stem and roots are useful against coughs, chronic fever, paralysis, asthma hepatomegaly, hepatitis, and lymphoma. The leaves of Acanthus ebracteatus, noted for their antioxidant properties, are used for making Thai herbal tea in Thailand and Indonesia. The leaves are elixir mixed with pepper. Both the seed and the seed to treat lymphatic fluid loss, leafworm medicine, juicing from leaves use to put on the head to nourish hair roots.
